Welcome

Prostate Cancer Canada Network - Thunder Bay is a volunteer based, non-profit organization run by prostate cancer survivors who help other men diagnosed with this disease, and their families. This organization originated in 1994 and was later known as the Thunder Bay Prostate Cancer Support Group before formalizing its current relationship with the Prostate Cancer Canada Network (PCCN) in 2010.

Our Misson

Establish and maintain an awareness program for early detection of prostate cancer. Provide support to prostate cancer survivors and their families. Establish prostate cancer support groups throughout Northwestern Ontario. Raise money for cancer research and support as finances allow.

Membership

Membership is not required, and there is no fee, for anyone coming to our meetings or talking with our members. If you later decide you want to become a member, the annual dues are $12. Those funds help defray the costs associated with running the group and hosting meetings. And members are entitled to run for executive positions or vote on group official business.

Meetings and Outreach Program

The Prostate Cancer Canada Network - Thunder Bay meets at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at the 55 Plus Centre, 700 River Street, Thunder Bay. Up-to-date information on prostate cancer, its diagnosis, treatment, and side effects is provided by medical professionals. Meetings also provide an opportunity to obtain and share information with others who have similar experiences. Spouses or partners are welcome to attend any of these meetings. Volunteers are prepared to visit in the hospital or home, or talk on the phone.

An excellent awareness program providing an overview of prostate cancer is available for community groups.

The video was first shown to many PCCN groups in Northern Ontario and received very positive reviews. A DVD has now been distributed to all Ontario PCCNs and then to all PCCNs in Canada. These prostate cancer support groups will have the opportunity to use this video in their group meetings and public discussions. Other interested organizations who wish a copy of the DVD can contact their local PCCN (see Prostate Cancer Canada Network in the Resources page at left to locate a nearby PCCN group), otherwise contact PCCN - Thunder Bay.
